Eucalyptus:
In Tamil it is called Karupuramaram. This plant is native of Australia. It is an evergreen and tall tree which grows in tropical countries.
The leaves of the eucalyptus is used for the treatment of Asthma. It is used to cure bronchitis, whooping cough, inflammation of the urinary bladder, dysentery, fever. In respiratory problems, especially in the inflammation of the sinus, it is recommended to breathe in the vapour of the decoction of the leaves. The decoction of fresh leaves is recommended for nerve, joints and various kinds of muscle pains. Eucalyptus oil is famous and used by many.
4. Bael Tree (or) Vilvam :
This tree is famous in the worship of Hindus. It is called Vilwa. Worshippers of Lord Shiva offer the leaves of the Bael tree to him (in the linga form). It is a tree which grows upto to a height of 3 to 6 meters. The parts of the tree have medicinal uses. The leaves of the tree are used as a mild laxative and used to cure inflammation of the mucous membrane having a free discharge and asthma.
The decoction of the leaves eliminates fever and removes mucous secretions from the bronchial tubes.
The bark is used in decoction form for intermittent fevers, melancholia or a depressed unhappy emotional state and heart palpitations.
The unripe fruit is used for giving tone and strengthening the stomach and aiding in digestion. The ripe fruit, which is round shaped and greenish-white in colour is aromatic, cooling and a mild laxative.
The extract of the ripe fruit with water is given for chronic constipation and dyspepsia or indigestion, discomfort or pain.
